Don't leave home without it! Although I know that it is not possible for
everyone to get disability coverage, those that can should. Your earning
power affects everything in your life. Some insurance companies have changed
the name of their product to "income protection" to reflect
the importance of your continuing to get your paycheck. Statistically,
you have a three in ten chance of becoming disabled between the ages of
25 and 65.
If you are in a company with more than ten employees, disability coverage is very affordable. It is rare that I speak with an employer who has at least ten full-time employees who isn't willing to consider group disability coverage.
